Markos Vamvakaris (Danakos of Syros, 10 May 1905 - Nikaia, Attica, 8 February 1972) was a Greek singer, composer, lyricist and instrumentalist, a particularly important musician of rebetiko singing. He is considered the "Patriarch" of rebetiko, as he made the genre famous due to the great success of his recorded songs.
